Veronika Shabunko, Ph.D, M.Eng, B.Eng, PMP

Dr. Veronika Shabunko is Head of the BIPV Centre of Excellence at the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) and Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is leading the Calorimeter Laboratory at SERIS, NUS.
Dr. Veronika is a guest lecturer at the School of Design and Environment at Department of Buildings (DOB), and Department of Architecture (DOA) at National University of Singapore, and an instructor at BCA Academy, and Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) for professional training program.
Dr. Shabunko started her career with a Bachelor in Electromechanical Engineering and obtained a Master in Mechatronics from Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) in the Russian Federation, and a Ph.D. in Energy Studies from the University of Brunei Darussalam.
Research Focus Area
Industry driven Sustainable Development, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, Smart Grids, Zero Carbon Green Buildings, Zero Energy Buildings, Renewable Energy, Low Carbon technologies and Sustainable cities, E-mobility, Hydrogen + Renewables.
She is specialised in interdisciplinary research focusing on Smart and Sustainable cities, by combining energy efficiency and conservation measures, innovative high-performance building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems and reliable integration of renewable energies into the infrastructure on urban scale. Her research aims to develop techno-economic solutions that make a difference towards sustainable development of densely populated cities to overcome the challenges of climate change. She is a scientific lead of the working group for establishment of relevant national regulations and standards for innovative BIPV technologies in Singapore with governmental and regulatory bodies, and an active contributor to the International Energy Agency, Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (IEA PVPS), Task 15 on “Enabling framework for the acceleration of BIPV”.
